A general guide to slaying Wyrms in OSRS
Whether you are doing a Slayer task are trying to farm for a specific OSRS item, learning how to defeat the monster is most important. Many monsters in Old School RuneScape aren’t hard to kill or don’t have any exciting mechanics. Only boss-type monsters are the ones you must worry about. They hit hard, have mechanics you must learn, and may require switching gear on the fly.
Luckily, Wyrms don’t have this problem. They are pretty easy to kill for a player who has a little bit of experience playing the game. You don’t need to have the best-in-slot items by any means. Unless you want to kill them faster to get your Slayer task done or get more OSRS gold per hour. But for the most part, you only need to tank the hits or out damage them, which is easy enough to do.
Either way, let’s get into some strategies to take Wyrms down as quickly as possible.
Wyrm Locations and Requirements
Wyrms are located in only one area: Karuulm Slayer Dungeon. More specifically, they are located in the lower level of the dungeon. The Karuulm Slayer Dungeon is in Mount Karuulm. The best ways to get to this location are using the Fairy Ring or Rada’s Blessing 3.
There are some requirements and restrictions to take note of before taking on this task:
- Have to be a member
- Slayer Level 62
- Boots of Stone, Boots of Brimstone, or Granite boots
- Complete Elite Kourend & Kebos Diaries
The boots are needed to protect you from constantly taking damage while in the dungeon. However, you can wear whatever boots you want by completing the Elite Kourend & Kebos Diaries. This allows for the best-in-slot gear. Faster farming means more OSRS GP per hour.
Wyrm Stats
Wyrms aren’t too tricky, but they have a good balance of stats. Technically, Wyrms have no weaknesses. However, they are less resistant to stab weapons and ranged weapons. Both are +20, so you won’t be doing extra damage but will still be doing the most damage possible. Wyrms also have a low max hit damage. With 13 for magic attacks and ten melee attacks, you should be able to withstand most of their attacks quickly enough.

Recommend Strategies and OSRS Items
When fighting Wyrms, you have two choices: use melee or ranged. Wyrms will use magic attacks if you prefer ranged when out of melee range. When battling with a ranged weapon, it is best to use Protect from Magic or bring any gear that increases your magic defense. It is best to get the Toxic Blowpipe or Dragon Hunter Crossbow for ranged. Honestly, fighting from afar is the best and safest option. There is no downside to doing so.
However, if you prefer melee, you will have to deal with their magic and melee attacks, making them harder to counter. However, if you bring an excellent stab weapon like the Dragon Hunter Lance and decent armor, you should be able to out DPS them and tank all of their hits.
Here are some valuable OSRS items to consider having when taking on Wyrms.
- Dragonbane Weapons: There are only 2 Dragonbane weapons in the game: The Dragon Hunter Lance and Dragon Hunter Crossbow. Both of these weapons increase accuracy and damage against Dragon-type monsters
- Blowpipe – A ranged weapon with good DPS.
- Protect from Magic – Negates magic damage for a short time.
Notable Drops
Wyrms only have two good drops in their loot table while on Slayer tasks. They also drop several runes that can be sold or traded for OSRS GP, but most players should be farming for the Dragon items.
- Dragon Harpoon – Worth a good amount of OSRS gold. Very useful for fishing as well.
- Dragon Sword – One of the best shortswords in the game.
They can drop some rare items if the gem drop table rolls, but these also drop from other sources, so they aren’t worth farming.
Conclusion
In short, Wyrms are straightforward if we are talking about mechanics and are pretty easy to kill. This is especially true compared to other enemies available in Slayer tasks. At the same time, you need to have your Slayer level at 62; you should be geared accordingly by the time you hit that. Wyrms offer a small amount of OSRS gold, but the Dragon Harpoon is worth a lot if you can get it to drop. As long as you come prepared, you should be able to slay Wyrms quickly enough, even with mid-level gear. Bring an excellent ranged or stab weapon with you and gear with magic defense.
